2050 (Humans, We Have a Problem…) Just Launched on Kickstarter

Madrid, Spain – A new socially conscious game company, Fiction Non Fiction, recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for 2050 (Humans, We Have a Problem…), a board game designed to explore the challenging paths to re-establishing nature’s balance. It has already earned a place in the ‘Projects We Love’ category on Kickstarter, with 22 days left to go.

The game begins in the year 2017. Against all odds, players must race to restore natural habitats and avert environmental collapse before the year 2050.

“This game tells the story of the global environmental crisis we are all in and what needs to be done to ease it,” explained the game’s designer, Alan Gallart, who has spent over 20 years on environmental projects and research, “Board games go deep into people’s homes and bring all sorts of subjects to the table. A notably absent subject in game culture is the relation between industry and economy vs the environment. I believe this is a good opportunity for environmentalists to dive into the game world and for gamers to get interested in this topic.”

The game board is an abstract planet Earth composed of various habitats and the human footprint of all major industrial sectors. These industry sectors contribute to the economy and generate gains but they do it at the expense of nature, causing natural disasters and continuing to melt polar and glacier ice round after round.

Up to four players can participate, each controlling their own territory with five industry sectors that need to be transformed. Players must invest in better environmental policies and launch improvement projects while managing strategic partnerships abroad to improve conditions on Earth. The player that ends with a better territory and more ice caps/glaciers by 2050 wins the game. If all players reach the lower limit of ice, everyone loses.

“I am collaborating with a great team of experienced producers in Europe, and we are confident that we will achieve great results with this first game,” said Gallart, “Reaching our Stretch Goal will help make the founding of Fiction Non Fiction possible, a platform focused on creating board games with themes that combine important social and environmental issues while integrating smart and fun gaming tools. If the Stretch Goal is reached, 5% of our proceeds will be donated to Environmental Protection and Regeneration Projects.”

In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can gain access to a variety of rewards including one copy of the game for €40, a copy of the game with the backer’s name in the Supporter’s Section of the Rule Book’s first edition for €50, and more. Backers can also pledge €80 for two copies of the game. Supporter Organizations can pledge €555 for ten copies plus their name and website featured in the Supporter Organization section of the Rule Book’s first edition.
