9 Essential Tips for Summer Hair Care

Hairweknow Tips

Summer is really a great time to be outdoors, but we all know how much the hot summer sun is harmful to our skin, and we take due precautions for it. However, have you ever given a thought about the effects that sun has on hair ? The sun can wreak equal havoc with our hair as with our skin. And here we show you useful ways to ensure hair care in summer.

Trim it

One of great summer hair care tips is to trim your hair regularly. Have your hair trimmed once a month or once every two months during the summer. This will remove any dry or split ends that might have occurred, so that your hair will look thicker and fresher.

Braid your hair

A messy braid is ideal for keeping your hair under control and minimizing exposure to the sun. Tight hairstyles can be damaging because they tend to pull and tear hair, especially if your hair is dry from the summer heat.

Wear a hat or hair scarf

Use a scarf or hat to cover your head when you’re out in the sun. Not only does this provide extra UV protection, but it also helps your scalp to retain moisture. A hat reduces damage caused by wind, especially if your hair is prone to tangling, and protects colour-treated hair.

Wash hair right after exposure

Whether it be after a nice dip in the pool or a long day at the beach, it’s a good idea to wash your hair right after exposure. This will eliminate further UV damage, and wash away any impurities that could stay on the hair. However, when we say wash the hair, we don’t necessarily mean use shampoo.

Use less shampoo

It’s more than acceptable to cut back on shampooing your hair on a daily basis when the warm weather comes your way. Cutting back on shampoo will actually allow your scalp’s oil production to re-balance itself, which is extra important for moisture during summertime weather.

Deep condition your hair regularly

Another important summer hair care tips is to deep condition your hair regularly during the summer months. Deep conditioning your hair, at least, once a week, is even more important in the summer, than it is in the winter. Your hair has a hard time in the summer with the heat, being doused in chemicals in the pool and you are constantly styling and re-styling it, so condition it regularly and replenish some that important moisture that has been lost.

Use an oil massage once a week

To bring life and shine back to your hair, try a weekly hot oil massage. Massage some warm olive oil into your hair and leave it on for about 20-30 minutes. Then wash and condition as usual, and the oil will moisturize, rejuvenate and nourish your locks beautifully, adding shine and glossiness.

Sun Protection

Make sure you use a leave-in conditioner with sunscreens. If you have too much work outdoors and are in the sun often, opt for hair products that have a good amount of SPF in them. You may also want to go for a special hair mask or sunscreen product that is made for your hair. However make sure to wash your hair when back home.

Stay hydrated

Dehydration is not good for your body and neither is it any good for your hair. Drink plenty of water, throughout the day and it will help to keep your skin glowing and your hair healthy and shiny.
