Urban City Sirens – Unique Real World Depiction of DC Comic Book Characters

A fan photoshoot to portray DC characters as real life female urban warriors

London, UK – April 8th, 2015 – Comic book fans all around the world, especially the females, are excited about the fan photo shoot, “Urban City Sirens.” Creator, Nene Parsotam who is a huge comic book fan girl, hopes to create a large photo shoot where she and a handpicked expert team would create an all female team of character interpretations, a re-imagining of core DC characters and portray them as urban and raw, real life vigilantes. They would have martial arts backgrounds and training that would underpin and strengthen their designs and be in line with their characters.

To make this a reality, Nene has turned to the Kickstarter community to raise £15,000 by May 1st, 2015.

Nene is a London based Art Director and prominent digital designer. She has assembled a strong, expert team in the film and photo industry to help make the “Urban City Sirens” photos a memorable one. This will take fan art to the next level.

Currently, the comic book industry is prominently male so sometimes even the best females characters are over sexualized with an unrealistic body image and styling. Nene and her team hope to show characters that are more in tune with modern females and other female fans.  “Urban City Sirens” will be a interpretation of core DC characters such as Nightwing, Flash, Aqualass, Black Canary, and Green Lantern.

The fan photoshoot is to show warrior women who are strong, powerful, and sexy. This will add a new dimension to the current realm of comic book characters, especially since 46% of self-identified comic fans are female. Talented photographer Asiko who has shot with America’s next top model alumni and Natalie Gordon will be part of this project.

Along with Rebecca Elley who is a stylist and costume designer that worked on the set of “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “The Avengers”. Tamara Ramsey will be the head lead hair and make up stylist that has previous experience on sets like “Thor 2.” Also, Stacy Wodu, who had worked on the live action film, “Disney’s Cinderella”, will be the second make up artist.

Popular CG artist BossLogic will be doing post production on the photos adding lighting, detailing and setting the characters in film poster style settings – for that graphic novel look and feel.

However, to make this project possible, the team is asking other comic book fans to help out in any way they can. Funding from the Kickstarter campaign will go towards hiring professional models, equipment, and all components needed to make this possible.

Those who wish to make a contribution can visit the campaign or click here. Supporters can choose from the many exclusive Kickstarter rewards including digital art and high quality prints/photobook as a “thank you” for the support.

This is an “all-or-nothing” deal, so know that a donation of any amount matters. If the campaign does not reach the goal, it can’t be done on the scale the creator would like. Please share this on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social networks. Spread the word to other comic book fans about “Urban City Sirens” and how they can help make this a reality!
